FUSING NAKED BEATS - ZENITH 06/10/2008 12:37
Internationally respected and much-loved West London producers DJ Asif & MRT aka Fusing Naked Beats return with their new album for 2008 ‘Zenith’.

Zenith is the fifth album from Fusing Naked Beats in 5 years and this album is a reflection of their efforts to reach for their Zenith, a true culmination of their best work to date.

The album features deep and driving house beats fused with their usual recipe of asian and arabic symphonies all with the distinct classic FNB production served up in generous helpings. It’s all here: The dance floor movers in the tracks “Sundust”, the synth-tech heavy grooves of ‘Elation’ and the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan 10th anniversary tribute track ‘Renaissance’. FNB have really raised the bar for innovative global dance music in this unique album.

The new album ‘Zenith’ will be available via I-Tunes from the 20th October and all good record stores soon!

BT DIGITAL MUSIC AWARD RESULTS ARE IN... 03/10/2007 12:38
...and we didn't win, but I just wanted to thank Dulal.

He's done an incredible job promoting (and updating) the site over the last few years, and since his involvement the site has grown from a tiny site that i was sure no one was looking at to what it is today. The fact that it was short-listed at all is amazing!

Anyway check the awards out on TV on Saturday night 12:40am, Channel 4.

So thanks again to duls, keep up the good work.

Kiran Desai: Youngest Woman to Win Man Booker Priz 12/10/2006 11:31
Youngest ever woman wins Man Booker Prize at age of 35
Kiran Desai was named the winner of the £50,000 Man Booker Prize for Fiction for The Inheritance of Loss on Tuesday 10th October.

The Indian-born writer has a strong family tie with the prize as her mother Anita Desai has been shortlisted three times since 1980 but has never won. This year, however, her daughter, Kiran, has won the acclaimed literary prize.

Author of the 1998 universally praised Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, Desai is the first woman to win the Man Booker since 2000 when Margaret Atwood scooped the prize with The Blind Assassin. Her winning book, The Inheritance of Loss, is a radiant, funny and moving family saga and has been described by reviewers as ‘the best, sweetest, most delightful novel’.

Chair of the judges, Hermione Lee, made the announcement at the awards dinner at the Guildhall, London, which was broadcast live on the BBC 10 O’ Clock News. Harvey McGrath, Chairman of Man Group plc, presented Kiran Desai with a cheque for £50,000.

Hermione Lee comments,

“We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Man Booker Prize for 2006 is Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss, a magnificent novel of humane breadth and wisdom, comic tenderness and powerful political acuteness. The winner was chosen, after a long, passionate and generous debate, from a shortlist of five other strong and original voices.”

Over and above her prize of £50,000, Kiran Desai is guaranteed a huge increase in sales and recognition worldwide. Each of the six shortlisted authors, including the winner, receives £2,500 and a designer-bound edition of their book.

The judging panel for the 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction is: Hermione Lee (Chair), biographer, academic and reviewer; Simon Armitage, poet and novelist; Candia McWilliam, award-winning novelist; critic Anthony Quinn; and actor Fiona Shaw.

In the north-eastern Himalayas, at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga, in an isolated and crumbling house, there lives an embittered old judge, who wants nothing more than to retire in peace. But with the arrival of his orphaned granddaughter, Sai, and the son of his chatty cook trying to stay a step ahead of US immigration services, this is far from easy.

When a Nepalese insurgency threatens the blossoming romance between Sai and her handsome tutor, they, too, are forced to consider their colliding interests. The judge must revisit his past, his own journey and his role in this grasping world of conflicting desires - every moment holding out the possibility for hope or betrayal.

Kiran Desai was born in India in 1971, and was educated in India, in England, and the United States. Kiran studied creative writing at Columbia University. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard and The Inheritance of Loss.

MO MAGIC - 'SIRENS' Order Now 10/10/2006 11:31
The long awaited debut album 'SIRENS' is ready to buy. Mo Magic has been involved in setting up some of the very first pre Asian Underground gigs across London, legendary club nights responsible for shaping and changing the face of dance music. A regular DJ in the scene, he made a reputation for his experimentation with a unique blend of beats and hard edged drum & bass fused with tough tabla breaks and the sweet sonic vibes of the Indian flute. Mo Magic, a name that has been around from the whole conception of the East meets West pigeonhole. Influenced by the early days of Nation Records and the street sounds of Afrika Bambaata, djing to the rebellious sound of 'Hardcore', the underground sound of London's pirate radio stations of the late 80's. A musical upbringing that reveals itself in many forms in his latest project 'the Sirens'. Fourteen DJ friendly 12 inch mixes of dirty raw Breakbeat and Drum and Bass under the influence of an Asian. An album designed for use on a big sound system and predestined for the dance floor....

FUN DA MENTAL NEW ALBUM IN TROUBLE 21/06/2006 12:30
FUN DA MENTALS new album ALL IS WAR (the benefits of g-had) has caused the directors of Nation Records to offer their resignations in the event the album is released through Nation Records.

Martin Mills and Andrew Heath (Beggars Banquet Group) both have expressed their concern and fear in the event they are linked to the many provocative and controversial elements of the album.

Aki Nawaz who also is a director but also the main man of Fun Da Mental is troubled by the stance and is considering the options.

The album is challenging the notion of freedom of speech and creative dissent especially in current times and my background gives me the perfect platform to express the issues from a personnel point of view and not from a mainstream imposed, misguided, patriotic perspective. I have the right equally and without condition as others to expose the hypocrisy and contradictions of democracy, been a Muslim does not mean I have to subservient, loyal or silent to the State or any of its illegal activities against any peoples, anywhere around the world. Fear is not a choice, I welcome it, but to say nothing, whatever the consequences, would be a cowardly act on my behalf

Aki Nawaz [ fun-da-mental ]

Yamboy And The Goonda Back Again 12/12/2005 11:19
January 9th 2006 sees the release of the next EP from Yam Boy and Goonda-Raj. Called "The Hunger", this EP continues to explore their brand of outlandish leftfield classical Indian music over pounding
hip-hop beats and spoken word poetry/eccentric rap. This time, the cast has grown to include carnatic South Indian violinist Dr Jyotsna Srikanth, jazz singer U'Mau, spoken word artiste Last Mango in Paris
(in a group with Yam Boy, called the D'Archetypes), Vee Kay, and the legendary UK rapper HKB Finn. This release is out through Movemusics and is a lot more accessible and uptempo than acclaimed album "Maad
Ethics." Who's hungry?
